On the Blog roll. Some of the blogs on my old list were defunct, so hopefully the new one will be shorter, and more up-to-date.

I know I got into a lot of trouble when I compared our war-dead to highway fatalities, but
here is the same comparison made from a different perspective:

Yet a great many Americans, particularly on the right, have failed to make this distinction. For them, the “Islamo-fascist” enemy has inherited not just Adolf Hitler’s implacable hatreds but his capacity to destroy. The conservative author Norman Podhoretz has gone so far as to say that we are fighting World War IV (No. III being the Cold War).

But it is no disrespect to the victims of 9/11, or to the men and women of our armed forces, to say that, by the standards of past wars, the war against terrorism has so far inflicted a very small human cost on the United States. As an instance of mass murder, the attacks were unspeakable, but they still pale in comparison with any number of military assaults on civilian targets of the recent past, from Hiroshima on down.

Even if one counts our dead in Iraq and Afghanistan as casualties of the war against terrorism, which brings us to about 6,500, we should remember that roughly the same number of Americans die every two months in automobile accidents.

The author’s point is that we are overreacting to the deaths that occurred on 9/11. That our “War and Terror” and the fear we have of “Islamo-Fascists” is overblown.

But, looked at from a different prespective, might the author admit that some have over-reacted regarding battle deaths? Honestly, I have no idea what this guy is advocating. I mean, is it that the war on terror is wrong because not enough people died on 9/11?

Not every adversary is an apocalyptic threat.

Not even when they threaten to use nuclear weapons against you? Not even when they vow to destroy “the Great Satan?”

This is so frustrating.

Blogger sucks donkey balls. They encouraged people to switch over to “New” Blogger, despite the fact that many people have been unable to access their blog (post to it) for weeks. There is no way to “revert” the blog back to the old (functioning) blogger format, so basically my old blog is just stuck in limbo.

You cannot find an email address to direct any questions, and even their “group help” isn’t opening this morning. Yesterday I could at least post questions- that went unanswered, of course. Today it doesn’t even open up.

Why, oh why, were they instructing people to switch over when it was so obviously not ready?

Since I cannot post at all to Blogger, and reading through the support pages it appears that my issue will not be resolved anytime soon, I picked-up and migrated.

Of course, lost is the two+ years of stuff from Blogger. I don’t know if I will be able to bring it over here (and I don’t think anyone but me cares), but perhaps I can piecemeal bits of it at some point.

I have NO idea how to post pictures over here …and still haven’t found the “help” page, but perhaps this joint will be more flexible than blogger. I never really cared for the layout over there.

Ok, since blogger hates me, I’m going to give this a try. Cripes, but now I have to set up my links, etc … and let everyone know where I am.

Although I have NO idea how the three boys managed to not injure themselves and/or others. The had rather creative methods for stopping at the bottom of the hill.

I’ve had a lot of fun with this blog, and I have appreciated (both of) my readers, but I feel I must sayIt’s been nice knowing ya!

Because, tomorrow, I’m going skiing. I haven’t been skiing in over twenty years, and I honestly feel chancing are great that I may break my leg. AND, if that happens, there is no way I’m going to be able to hobble downstairs to my computer. I hear it takes (almost) 40-year-old bones forever to heal, so by the time I got back online, you will have all deleted this blog from your bookmarks list. So, if this scenario plays out the way I fear it might, this is good bye.

Otherwise, I’ll be back on Monday.
